Statement

My work is inspired by imagery from my dream life. Keeping a dream journal has allowed me to observe the rich symbolism from my subconscious, and these observations with my quest for better self-understanding, have led me to use this visual language as fuel for my painting.

In a surreal dance between intuition and technical precision I begin each painting by pouring the paint onto the canvas, I then work with the random outcome of the pour, giving my subconscious another chance to play.

My use of colour is deliberately expressive and bold. I make use of transparencies and layering, with the intent to convey a fragmentary, ethereal quality consistent with an ever-shifting subconscious landscape. The boundaries between reality and imagination blur, encouraging contemplation and providing an entryway to a world where inner missives are transformed into a vibrant visual narrative.

Each series is an exploration of archetypes – recurrent symbols or motifs – that shape our perceptions, fears, and desires. Through the medium of dream imagery, I seek to create a space for viewers to connect with the universal language of dreams and the collective unconscious. The artworks serve as a conduit, allowing the observer to explore the interconnected threads of their own subconscious minds, the universal symbols found in dreams, and the personal and collective meaning these symbols carry.
